At the City of Tuscaloosa, we believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy, local foods. That’s why our farmers markets are proud to accept payments from a variety of food assistance programs!

SNAP/EBT

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/EBT) provides monthly benefits to supplement household food budgets. Shoppers wishing to use SNAP/EBT at our market should visit the market manager’s information table. The market manager will assist any shoppers who wish to swipe EBT cards. Once the card is swiped, tokens are issued to the shopper that can be spent with vendors on SNAP-eligible items. Tokens do not expire and may be used at future markets.

SNAP-Eligible Items

SNAP tokens can be used for: fruits and vegetables, plants that grow food (like tomato plants), bread, eggs, meat, dairy products, syrups and honey, baked goods intended for home consumption (like loaves of bread or whole cakes), canned goods, and packaged coffee beans.

SNAP tokens cannot be used for: non-food items, ready-to-eat food (like pastries, ice cream, or hot foods), flowers, cakes slices, cookies or cupcakes, or hot or (iced coffee).

Stretch Your Dollars with Double Up Food Bucks

Double Up Food Bucks are provided to anyone using SNAP/EBT. The program will double the amount spent up to $20 per visit for use on fresh fruits and vegetables.
